Drum labels must now be labeled with “very specific elements, including pictograms, signal words, and various hazard and precautionary statements” to be considered OSHA compliant labels.

As of June 1, 2015, all chemical drum labels must comply with OSHA’s new standards outlined in the HazCom2012 Final rule. These rule changes bring the Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) in alignment with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals – or GHS for short.

Brandywine successfully implemented GHS with our drum label customers to meet the 2015 deadline. We found that the GHS requirements for labeling content were best managed with on-demand label printing, which allowed easy changes between similar products that had different GHS pictograms or slight content differences based on container size.
